Tally Chart Of Birds Seen In The Garden

Draw a tally chart of birds seen in the garden.

After we made our bird feeder from a recycled milk carton we talked about the birds we might see and noted the birds that were using the feeder. (Mainly sparrows, blue tits and great tits.)

We had a look through some bird books and listed birds we might see in the garden and that we have seen in the past. (Good reading exercise.)

Then we drew a chart and picked out 7 birds from our list.
Ask / Explain what tally marks are and how to represent 5. (Good for practising 5xtable.)

Fill in the tally chart with the number of sightings.

4 Marker Challenge - PE

I've named this the 4 marker challenge!  Use 4 cones or 4 old cloths as a marker.  Set the 4 markers a metre apart from each other some distance from a start line and finish line.  You could use a marker for start and finish lines.  From the start line run to marker one and back, then run to marker two and back, run to 3 and back then 4 and back, then first to finish line is the winner.  If only one child doing it you could time them to get quicker each day.  You can adapt this activity. Acrostic Poem About Football

An acrostic poem has the word you are writing about down the page so the letter for each sentence spells out the word. We decided to do ours about football, but you could do it about any topic your child is interested in. One day we wrote down lots of words associated with football. Second day we wrote the poem. It was a joint effort. Third day we typed up the poem. We would love to see your poems so please share any you do.

Robin Thumb Print Christmas Card

We have made a simple robin thumb print Christmas card this weekend. You need: A4 white paper.  Black felt tip pen.  Glue.  A4 Coloured card.  Red paint.  Envelopes.  Gold, silver or white glitter pen.  What to do...  Cut up white A4 paper into six squares.  Draw different robin outlines. The children can then trace the different outlines onto the paper squares or draw their own. Dab thumb into red paint and make a red thumb print for the robin's red breast.  When the paint is dry, glue the square onto folded coloured card.  Write Happy Christmas on the front.  Write message inside.  We stuck some sequin snowflakes on the front.  We love these simple Christmas cards.
