Design and Draw Chocolate Bar

Design and draw Charlie's next birthday chocolate bar from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

This activity can be done as a follow on from the awesome adjectives or it can stand alone.

Read extract from chapter one of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where Charlie can only think of one thing, chocolate and he only gets a chocolate bar once a year on his birthday. Imagine you are Charlie and you are getting a chocolate bar for your birthday.

What do you think about the chocolate bar you get on your birthday? It's special, yummy, mouth watering, delicious, scrumptious....

How would you describe the chocolate?

Think about size, shape, colour of wrapper, taste, smell....

Size - gigantic, huge

Shape - rectangular, a slab

Colour - golden, multicoloured

Taste - delicious, scrumptious, yummy

Smell - heavenly, chocolatey

Now design and draw a chocolate bar wrapper/chocolate you will get for your next birthday, (remember you are Charlie.)

Think about size of wrapper, shape, name of chocolate bar, lettering - capitals, bubble writing, shapes, colours on wrapper, any special messages eg surprise inside, 5 stars, pull tab to open the wrapper.

When finished you can cut in two different ways.

1. Leave a white border around the wrapper and cutout. Pick out two colours in the wrapper and mount onto those colours in card or coloured paper. Eg We mounted a dragon's we drew in this way.

2. You can also draw the actual chocolate on another piece of paper. Think about type of chocolate - milk, dark, white, fillings eg fruity filling, creamy filling, has it got bits in it eg biscuits, toffee, sprinkles etc

Cut out the wrapper and if the bar inside is a different size/shape to your wrapper, put the wrapper over the top and draw round the outline. Cut out the chocolate bar and place them together. Use cellotape to tape one side of both together so it opens like a book. Then you have the wrapper and open it open to reveal the chocolate underneath.

We did this in a zoom call with school friends so I'm looking forward to seeing the completed wrappers and chocolate bars.

Check out the adjectives activity here.

We are going to do a piece of descriptive writing to go with this drawing.
